Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions apply to all training, behaviour consultations, 1-2-1 sessions, classes, courses, workshops and other services provided by The Canine Behaviour Practice.
By making a booking with us, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
1. Bookings & Payment
Bookings should be made through our booking system or directly with The Canine Behaviour Practice where agreed.
Payment is required in accordance with the terms shown at the time of booking. Your place or appointment is not confirmed until the required payment has been received and confirmation has been issued.
Places on courses and classes are limited and are offered subject to availability.
2. Cancellations, Rescheduling & Refunds
We understand that plans sometimes change and will always try to be reasonable where circumstances allow.
For 1-2-1 training and behaviour appointments, requests to reschedule should normally be made at least 7 days before the appointment.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or appointments where a client does not attend or is not available at the agreed time, may be charged at the full session fee.
Course and class bookings are generally non-refundable once booked. In exceptional circumstances, we may agree to transfer a booking to another suitable course, subject to availability.
Missed classes within a course cannot normally be refunded, credited or carried forward.
If The Canine Behaviour Practice has to cancel a session, class or course, we will offer an alternative date, credit or refund as appropriate.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
3. Weather & Venues
Some of our training takes place outdoors throughout the year, so please dress appropriately for the conditions.
If weather or ground conditions make training unsafe or unsuitable, we may:
change the training location;
move the session indoors where possible;
alter the content of the session; or
reschedule the session.
We will give clients as much notice as reasonably possible.
4. Your Dog’s Health
Dogs attending our services should be fit and well enough to participate.
Please do not bring your dog if they are suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea, a contagious illness or anything else that could pose a risk to other dogs.
Dogs attending group environments should have appropriate vaccinations or veterinary-approved titre testing where applicable.
Please tell us about any medical condition, injury, medication or veterinary advice that could affect your dog’s training or behaviour.
We may ask for veterinary involvement or veterinary consent where we believe a health or pain-related issue could be contributing to behaviour.
5. Behaviour & Suitability
Please give us accurate information about your dog’s behaviour when booking.
We particularly need to know about any history of:
biting or attempted biting;
aggression towards people or dogs;
significant fear or anxiety;
guarding behaviour;
difficulty coping around dogs, people or busy environments; or
any other behaviour that could affect safety or welfare.
Not every dog is comfortable or able to learn effectively within a group class.
If we believe another type of support would be more appropriate, we may recommend 1-2-1 training, behaviour support or an alternative service before your dog joins a group.
Our priority will always be the welfare and safety of the individual dog, other dogs, clients and our team.
6. Owner Responsibilities
You remain responsible for your dog throughout your appointment or class.
Please follow reasonable safety and management instructions given by your trainer or behaviourist.
Dogs should remain on lead unless your trainer specifically asks you to remove it.
Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and for bringing suitable equipment and rewards as advised.
Children are welcome where appropriate but must remain supervised by a responsible adult. Please let us know in advance if children will be attending a behaviour consultation or training session.
7. Training & Welfare Standards
The Canine Behaviour Practice is committed to kind, ethical and evidence-informed training and behaviour support.
We do not permit methods or equipment that we believe unnecessarily cause fear, pain, intimidation or distress.
We may ask you to stop using particular equipment or handling techniques during our sessions where we believe these compromise welfare or safety.
Anyone behaving abusively towards a dog, another client or a member of our team may be asked to leave the session.
8. Safety
Working with dogs naturally involves some risk, particularly when dogs are frightened, excited, frustrated or undergoing behaviour rehabilitation.
We take reasonable steps to provide a safe training environment and will give management and handling guidance appropriate to the circumstances.
Clients must follow safety instructions and tell us immediately if they feel unable to safely manage their dog.
We strongly recommend that owners maintain appropriate third-party liability and veterinary insurance for their dog.
9. Liability
Owners remain responsible for injury, damage or loss caused by their dog where they are legally responsible for that loss.
The Canine Behaviour Practice will take reasonable care when providing its services.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Personal belongings brought to training venues remain the responsibility of their owner.
10. Equipment
Dogs should attend using safe, comfortable and appropriately fitted equipment.
We may recommend alternative equipment where we believe existing equipment compromises your dog’s welfare, comfort or safety.
Please bring suitable food rewards, toys or other training equipment requested by your trainer.
11. Photography & Video
We may occasionally take photographs or video during classes, events or training sessions.
We will seek appropriate permission before using identifiable images of clients for marketing or promotional purposes.
You are completely free to decline photography or marketing use, and doing so will not affect the service you receive.
Please let a member of the team know if you do not want yourself or your dog included in photographs or video.
12. Privacy & Client Information
We collect and use personal information in order to provide our services, manage bookings, communicate with clients and maintain appropriate client and behaviour records.
Information will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable UK data protection legislation.
We do not sell client personal information to third parties.
Where appropriate, behaviour cases may involve communication with your veterinary practice or another professional involved in your dog’s care. We will explain when this is required and obtain appropriate permission where necessary.
13. Changes to Classes & Services
Occasionally we may need to change a trainer, behaviourist, venue, session time, course content or class arrangement.
We will only make changes where reasonably necessary and will let affected clients know as soon as practicable.
14. Training & Behaviour Outcomes
Every dog is an individual.
Training and behaviour change are influenced by many factors, including learning history, health, genetics, environment, owner involvement and consistency between sessions.
For this reason, we cannot guarantee a particular training or behaviour outcome within a specific period of time.
We will provide professional recommendations based on the information available to us and will review and adapt plans where appropriate.
15. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any dispute will be dealt with under the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
